Special Events

There are almost always special events going on at Kingswood. In addition to our regularly scheduled program, we sprinkle in evening events that are talked about, and campers look forward to, for days!

Camp Cookouts

Everyone looks forward to the laid back cookouts in the picnic area, which overlooks the lake, twice a week. Hamburgers, hotdogs, veggie burgers, salads, as well as sodas, make these meals a treat.

Cabin Skits

Hilarious cabin productions which usually poke good natured fun at counselors or parody camp.

Egg Drop

A hilarious and much hyped all-camp event. Cabins work to build a contraption that will protect an egg through increasingly difficult challenges. Only one cabin takes home the coveted Egg Drop Cup!

Lake Swim

Once a session, strong swimmers venture across the lake and back under close lifeguard supervision. The camp record of 23 minutes stood for over 50 years! It is now 22:48!

Bow and Arrow Week

Kingswood’s color war. This multi-day event is part of the final week of camp. The Bow Team faces the Arrow Team in a wide array of activities. This week of wonderful sportsmanlike traditions is a great way to end the summer!

Mystery Clinics

Something creative and new. Different each time, but always a secret!

Dances

Highly anticipated, optional dances with the girls from Camp Merriwood or Camp Wak-lo. For boys 12 and up are scheduled once or twice a session.

Records Day

Camp records to be broken in everything from soccer juggling to broom toss.
Each age group has its own records to keep it fair.

Ice Cream Parties

Weekly celebration for cabins with high inspection grades (usually all of the cabins). Ice cream sundaes with all the toppings!

California Beach Day

Waterfront games on hot, lazy afternoons. Offerings include “The Big Splash Contest”, “The Zany Dive Contest”, a sandcastle building competition, inner-tube water polo, etc.

Ice Cream Clinique

A hilarious (and delicious) ice cream making extravaganza hosted by Kingswood’s own “Professor Cool” and “The Iceman”. A great night for the younger boys, but popular with the older campers too!

Video Nights

Outdoor events on a giant projection screen featuring approved movies such as Cool Runnings and major sporting events such as the World Cup.

Major League Baseball All-Star Game Campout

A big party on the second Tuesday in July in front of the big screen.

Coffee House

A talent show and concert held in the “Great Room” of the main lodge, often on rainy evenings.

Water/Field Stations

A popular weekend event where boys rotate to a different, unique station every half-hour. Stations include tug of war, tennis ball evasion, swim races, etc.

Cabin Carnival

Cabin groups earn special chips by running creative games. The chips can be used to purchase special prizes such as “breakfast in bed for one morning”.

Nighttime Concerts

Counselors and campers show off their musical talent before highly enthusiastic crowds.

Star Gaze Overnights

On-campus campouts on clear nights. The camp has several telescopes and we look forward to the Perseus Meteor Shower each summer.

Extravaganzas

Special all-camp events with days of promotion leading up to the big celebration. Past extravaganzas include: A Renaissance Festival, A Barbeque and Music Festival, A Day at the Races, and many more, all done in typical hilarious Kingswood fashion!

Pemi Day

12 athletic events with boys from another camp, all in one day! Soccer, basketball, and baseball games for all age groups are offered, as well as special alternate activities.

Lazy Float trips

A group of campers, accompanied by lifeguards and ski boat, starts at the end of the lake and lazily floats back to camp in inner tubes. A favorite on hot days!
